01Biography

Current and prior work.

Tim Gentry is Chief Operating Officer at First Resonance, where he leads operations for the ION platform, a manufacturing intelligence system used by aerospace, automotive, and defense firms. The work is concerned with how complex hardware companies translate operational rigor into measured outcomes. That means earlier detection of quality issues, cleaner traceability, and faster movement through the regulatory approvals that these industries require. A dated record of the role is kept on the Tim Gentry · First Resonance profile.

Before First Resonance, Tim Gentry was President of Clubspeed, a vertical SaaS provider serving the global entertainment sector, where he led global expansion and revenue growth. Before that he was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Revenue Officer at Perfecta, and Managing Director for Avaya in the Asia-Pacific region. His early career was at Nortel Networks. Across these roles the common thread has been the operating side of growth. How go-to-market, customer success, and delivery are organized so that revenue is durable rather than episodic.

The Asia-Pacific years shaped much of how Tim Gentry approaches leadership. Running a regional business across several countries meant working with very different customers, regulators, and cultures at the same time. It also meant seeing how much of a company’s capacity sits unused in its people and its relationships, and how quickly that capacity can be put to work when someone takes responsibility for it.

Alongside operating work, Tim Gentry completed a Doctor of Business Administration at Temple University’s Fox School of Business, conferred in May 2026. His dissertation, Board Capital Activation and Crisis Recovery: Director Evidence on Crisis Knowledge, examines how directors’ prior crisis knowledge conditions a board’s influence on firm recovery. The central finding is that experienced boards help firms recover when that experience is actively put to use, not merely present on the board. The research is summarized under research, and the concept is defined on the Board Capital Activation page.

The research informs the method Tim Gentry writes about as the Capital-to-Revenue Multiplier, described under framework. The method treats board, human, and network capital as distinct resources that most companies already hold, and asks how each can be diagnosed and re-allocated toward measured revenue outcomes. It is a working method, tested in operating roles rather than in theory alone.

Tim Gentry holds an MBA from American University, has completed executive education at Harvard, and has held teaching engagements at Georgetown University. He has been a member of YPO since 2012 and serves on the board of tagSpace. He speaks occasionally for boards, executive teams, and member organizations on AI adoption, governance, and growth; a record of talks and coverage is kept on the press and speaking page.

Tim Gentry is based in Greater Los Angeles and works with companies globally. Correspondence about board work, operating questions, or invitations to write or speak is welcome through the contact page.
